Weren't two years ago, either. The only poll that matters is the one at the end of the season..............Kearney is not in the top 25 ???

Another useless poll. I take a wild guess at who will win knowing I will likely be wrong............about as much as I trust these things. Way back in 2008 I remember Maxpreps ranking Kearney #4 in all of MO regardless of class. Still laugh about that one.
SMH...I think they give Jones a little more credit than he deserves. Also funny about this is that Platte County, Liberty North, and Liberty are ranked in the top 25.

They were winning state titles before Jones, and they will be good after Jones. A real down year for Kearney is like District Champs, and a 4 loss season.

Even a school like Kearney will have difficulties keeping it going at the highest level for three years in a row. Although they did get a new QB transfer from Liberty. He looked decent in the jamboree, but he is not even close to what they had last year.
Actually, it has been four years in a row that Kearney has been top 4. Although last year's team was probably the weakest of the past four, I would expect that is hard to keep up to that level. I wouldn't get too excited about Kearney not stopping the veer in a jamboree--of course it works when you haven't game planned for it. From what I heard, Kearney dominated Liberty though. The new coach and new system are bound to have an impact.
Hahahaha...I just read the Maxpreps rankings now... Center and Maryville ranked higher than Webb City? I think we need to play four or five games before anybody does any rankings that make any sense.
Your math education must have been different than mine, but I don't understand this new math so ....................
Does it change the point? Uhh...no. (1) Pre-season polls are meaningless. (2) Kearney will still be ranked higher than Liberty, Liberty North, Platte County, and Smithville, at the end of the year, EVEN if they have a down year.

Kearney just needs a dependable QB. This was what I figured may be the issue going into this season. I take about zero from jamborees and never have attended one. Especially when a team in your class you may face down the road is involved never want to show much. D will be much improved, especially on the outside. Lines should be better although O Line again has a number of new starters. As I expected coming out of 2016 RB will be #1 strength and WR has potential. The schedule couldn't be better prep for district playoffs and beyond. Answer the QB issue and another semifinal is very possible.
Improvement on the lines is very much expected. But this will be negated without a somewhat dynamic QB...which has benefited them the past several years.

It was a major weakness I saw all the way back to the Ray South game. Another reason why I couldn't believe they made it that far last year. This fall the D will be much better.
Know you don't like to brag on yourself Top but I bet Kearney couldn't stop you from eating pizza.

Is it just me or does JNReturns have a personal vendetta against Harrisonville? It's like his senior season ended at the hands of the wildcats 20 years ago and he just can't let it go.
Don't know him but do overs usely only happen on a message board.
I have a ton myself...
So many of these polls are just conduits to higher news paper sales and tv viewership.
In this case increased radio ad sales and listening audience.

How could I possibly have a vendetta against Harrisonville...the team that lost to Excelsior Springs.
Harrisonville did not need to score in the second half, but they did pickup 3 first downs running the ball to end the game.

Ya start talking local sports media and I start getting political.............yikes trying not to go there.
It is a testament to coaching and a lot of the stuff coaches say but many don't often believe--that you can see remarkable improvement and win a championship, even after losing 49-0 to Platte County and losing to Excelsior Springs. Yes, the mission was accomplished for sure. I sure didn't believe it. But they made it happen.
It was a combination of injuries, scheme change on offense (getting QB back umder center) and some personel changes, and a group of young men and coaches that kept fighting through the adversity.
But what usually happens, is the air goes right of a team, and they don't recover--certainly don't make a run.
Kearney will be Kearney! They will still be a team full of tough, hardworking, smart, hardnosed football players! They don't need preseason rankings or any bull crap southern mottos to give them any false confidence! When you get off the bus in KMO you better be ready to battle until the clock stops ticking because these guys are loyal to their coaches, their town and most of all each other! I can't wait to see how they respond to all this disrespect!!

Good pep speech! I am actually very excited about this season and remember very freshly what many of us thought going into 2015.............how did that turn out?
I was told by a good KHS friend that last years QB was in the hospital early in the week with appendix issues and waited till after game to have surgery if true that kid was pretty tough to play in the finals

I know exactly to whom/what that refers and it is hilarious. Thankfully looks like I will be back to days come the week Liberty North comes to KTown. It will be a crazy night........
