70 (just ten weeks to go!)

Rockhurst could be a wild card this year. They lost a lot. But with their numbers and recruiting, you never know.

We are going on 15 seasons since Rock won a state championship. They made it there in 14 and 18, but that is getting to be a long drought.

2024 6-4
2023 10-2 (Close loss to state champs in playoffs)
2022 5-5
2021 4-6
2020 5-3
2019 7-4

We have been seeing unparalleled levels of success from Rock in several sports in recent years. But football?
Is this a bounce-back year? Can they not recruit like they used to because of the other options available? This recent couple of years kind of makes you go, meh! Getting blasted by Bishop Miege last season was not a good look, either.

The emergence of the Blue Valley schools (check out their extremely high per capita income levels) also contributes, as do all the private options you mentioned. There has been a bit of a demographic shift away from the Prairie Village and Roeland Park into the hinterland of high-dollar Kansas neighborhoods and homes too far away from Rock to attend.

11-25:

11. Kirkwood (pulled off one of the biggest upsets in C6 in several years)
12. St. Pius X (love what this program is doing but schedule is doomsday)
13. Seneca (Big 8 never disappoints)
14. Helias Catholic (not sure I would have had them this high, frankly)
15. Park Hill (a definite C6 sleeper especially if they balance the O)
16. MICDS (Fred has moved on to KS)
17. Rockhurst (always solid question is will they be competitive or a top gun in a loaded class?)
18. Blue Springs (yet another KC C6 team to watch)
19. Carthage (another not sure I'd rate quite this high)
20. Columbia Rock Bridge (watch that Park Hill opener could be another classic)
21. Lutheran North (took some player losses plus HC and key coordinator gone)
22. Blair Oaks (Week 2 hosting LN is a can't miss game. Falcons gonna Falcon again in 25)
23. Jackson (always fun to watch and added a key home Week 2 game vs. Louisville Ballard)
24. Republic (honestly no read on what has become a strong program)
25. Kearney (expect them to move up the rankings as the season goes on. C4 a mystery beyond them and LN, frankly, if it stays as 24)

Well, you can move Kearney above Carthage and Blue Springs South, based on camp performance. And that was with 4-5 starters not playing.

I would love to think somebody not named Lutheran North can push them in C4 this fall.................but got nothing barring some huge surprise class move this August.

Roeland is hard core inner "suburbia" today.

That wasn't one i had on my bingo card. I figured he'd go to Republic.

Is the QB the only starter returning? OOF!
The kid could play anywhere. I'm afraid it's going to be at Marionville again this season.

Yeah, just Pomeroy and the QB Guerin.

Days to kickoff!

#19 was the complete dismantling of the #2 team in Class 5. #6 Helias team impressive with the Alabama TE. #5 Platte County was a video game team in 2017. #2 Fort. Formidable team. #13 Smithville - an all time classic. Patience and smash mouth football win the day.

The wild part is I attended each and every single one of those except #1 in person (ice storm after midnight shift)! I haven't attended exclusively alma mater games since 2002, either.

I am shocked the high scoring win over what I thought was the best team in C4 in 2016 Platte County is not on this list. Come to think of it where is that playoff rematch?

Glad to see the defensive win over C5 finalist Belton make this list. That was an extremely physical one pretty much the game where I think we KMO folks knew Jones was going to bring Kearney back to the C4 spotlight and quickly.

2016 Platte County was an 8-4 team. Their loss to an average Belton team didn't help. Not ranked super high. Would not make the top 40.

But they beat the eventual champ Harrisonville 49-zip. Had a future OU catcher at QB (Mitchell).

Early in the season, Harrisonville had 2-3 players they did not have going on both sides of the ball yet. A few tweaks and healthy players make a big difference. See 2023 Kearney vs. Smithville Reg Season vs. District Final.

Side Note: The Excelsior Springs Tigers beat that state champion Harrisonville team early in the season as well.
Excelsior 19 Harrisonville 18

You passed! I was checking to see who remembered all those extenuating circumstances...................

2025 question will Excelsior finish 3rd in their final season in the Sub Blue?

They will have to beat Raytown South. ES lost to them 27-7 last season. Have to be some big improvement to move into the #3 spot. Just long term it never helps at a school their size when it has a relatively powerhouse soccer team. Three straight final fours in soccer. Athletes get steered toward the championship teams.
