in 50 years no other nation has accomplished that feat.

And people say our country was never great.

John Kennedy gave the nation a challenge and NASA responded. I remember standing behind the post office on the banks of Indian River in Titusville watching the shock waves from Apollo 11 launch rolling across the water early that morning and feeling the ground shaking like it was yesterday

Wow! That had to be a great experience.
Batteries made at Eagle Picher in Joplin and all of the J2 engines for second and third stage were built and tested at Rocketdyne facility in Neosho. Southwest Mo had a lot of people involved in the project

Both my Dad and Granddad worked at Rocketdyne back then, They talked about working on those engines and watching the testing of them. I drive by that factory today and it is just a shell of what it once was. I don't know if America could go to the moon today without the help of China and Mexico manufacturing. We sure don't have that sort of infrastructure today.
