This game was somewhat similar to Willard - a decisive win but the defense again looked complacent and gave up a new season high. The offense did great things but also like last week got into a lot of 3rd and long or 4th downs and relied on big plays to keep drives alive. Which they delivered on by playing with confidence in situations where many teams wouldn't take the risk. Carlton is seriously impressive.

From the Republic perspective, 28 of Carthage's points came on 4th down, one a 4th and 15 - that had to be frustrating. Also, I didn't really understand why Republic kept trying to throw the ball (in the rain) when they seemed to be picking up yards with ease on the ground. Other teams have found some success passing against Carthage so I understand why it was in the game plan but if you're running and scoring, don't fix what ain't broke! Electing to run pass plays was about the only thing that seemed to be killing Republics drives.

Hopefully they will tighten up when it's do or die time. They've got a really solid team this year. Will be interesting to see what happens when/if Sappington returns.
