Yeah when I heard that my first thought was he didn't just keep them to threaten the DOJ if they try to prosecute him, he's probably already made a LOT of money/favors off this and who knows who was paying.
My prediction: Until it's proven that Trump used any of the documents for illegal purposes, nothing is going to happen. Merely illegally being in possession of classified docs will not amount to criminal charges for an ex president.
It should be, they were all over the place at his fancy joint and lots of people came and went constantly. People made fun of them for going through Melania's closet! The places they found some of the stuff they HAD to check everywhere. He had them randomly laying all over the place and mixed in with his personal papers. Now Trump claims they dumped them in the floor to make it look like he did it. DUH! They laid them out to take pictures of them, NO one claimed he left them laying in the floor. We'll see if they can figure out what documents are missing from the empty folders and where they are now.m He didn't just take them home, he grossly mishandled them while they were there.
How do you know this? Has it happened before?
What if you tell the FBI everything has been returned and that is untrue?
What if you tell them everything is in the storage area, when the reality is
you have hidden them elsewhere? Have other presidents done that?

A lot of "what ifs", I'm just saying, as of right now, there is no proof that Trump or anyone else have used the classified docs for any illegal activities. He is guilty of taking the docs and that's the only crime so far.
Nixon got a pardon. Reagan famously couldn't remember anything before the Senate hearings about Iran Contra. Clinton lied about his sexcapades in sworn tetimony. We have never convicted a US president of a crime. Trump will get a pass if unauthorized possession of classified documents is the only provable crime DOJ comes up with.
Mueller had him on several counts of obstruction and Barr lied. There is more obstruction here, obviously. They gave him 18 months. We can only hope someone will eventually have the courage to do the right thing, indict him and hopefully prevent any future president from any party from repeating his behavior.
DOJ won't move forward without an ironclad case. My feeling is that if charges are filed, then Trump goes down. He may well regret not being able to retain an attorney(s) necessary to deal with a case of this potential magnitude.
He is still able to delay, deflect and deny. The judge says he gets his Special Master to drag this out as long as possible. We'll see if they can find out what happened to the classified documents that we're in the empty folder and the explanation as to why they weren't there when they took the stuff from his house.
She was a Trump appointee with no judicial experience and was pushed through the Senate after trump lost.
If I was the DOJ I'd put up a solid person and let them work.
Then the trumpers have one less thing to cry about.
If it drags on does that keep him from running again? This is what I feel is the point of the whole thing.
I don't think he wants to win. He just wants people to keep sending him money.
He's the perpetual victim.
Surely people will start figuring the grifter out.
maybe he's feeling guilty for unleashing trump on us after he covered for him so many times.
I was thinking this too. But Trump tasted all that power, he didn't give it up easily once he lost the last election and currently he is basically leading in all the Pub polls.
I think he wants to stall this all out and once elected again he will squash anybody who has or will cross him.

Today he said he doesn't think Trump should be indicted but that DOJ was getting very close it. After what he said about him having the docs why would think he should not be indicted?
Trump is going to do everything he can to stall the investigation all the way to Nov '24. Then he is assuming he will win, so he and the Reps Congresss will make it all go away.
