Who was the dude from Colorado around 2008 who was totally anti immigrant and they kind of ignored him on stage during the repubs debates? I think i just remembered. Tom Tancredo or something like that. Weird dude.

Tancredo, yeah. He was quoted the other day telling trump to tone down the rhetoric. I laughed at that.

As much as I think The Donald is a baffoon, I have to give him credit for saying what many Americans think about immigration. I have never understood why we are so lenient on illegal immigrants. What part of "illegal" is unclear? Reagan proved that a one time amnesty does not work. I have no problem with a massive effort to round up all illegals and ship them back to wherever they came from. All the arguments about the need for farm workers, the legal children of illegals, ect. are all besides the point. Illegal means illegal, period.

All politicians know that a no tolerance stance on illegal immigrants is political suicide.

Because its prohibitively expensive, many industries depend on migrant workers, and it's unrealistic to assume you're going to round up millions of people and ship them off.

For the longest time we tried to round up all the illegal pot smokers and other druggies and put them in jail at a tremendous cost especially if they were African Americans, why not immigrants?

Homeland security is prohibitively expensive, but I want it. Space exploration is too, but I want it. Medicare is too, but I want it. etc. etc.

If you look at measures of substantive outcomes like crime, employment rate, etc...it's actually pretty challenging to argue that Reagan proved it didn't work.

The wave of people legalized in the 1980s turned out to be very good citizens overall.

There is no feasible way to do the massive round-up. But, hey, as Veer likes to point out, we all like big government when it suits our political goals.

The way we do a lot of homeland security is a total waste of money. We need many of the services but it's a very good example of egregious spending. When people talk about eliminating cabinet level positions...they should be talking about eliminating this one.

Homeland security, yes. Space, no. Not in the same realm of spending.

The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) was a space based endeavor ...
that helped bring Israel the ARROW 2 anti-missile interceptor and the systems to guide it to it's target...

I agree with you that space exploration is a great thing...

SDI was a terrible waste of money - a perfect example of big government pork loved by a lot of Republicans because it was connected to the military.

Regardless I want HLS.

Yes, clearly one can only care for allies by spending tens of billions of dollars on them.

I appreciate your concern for how your tax dollars are being spent. I could counter with Climate Change, Abortions, Welfare States, Sanctuary Cities, Anti-Military Readiness, Out of control Federal Spending....Obama Care, Universal Health Care, Tax Anything and Everything Government Policies...

What you call important we call a waste of tax dollars.
What we call important you call an Allie.

Politics ...
Gotta love it ;)

Wildcat we had, and still have, several 3 letter agencies that have always done what Homeland Security is supposed to do. IF we needed that new agency why did we keep all those that were already doing the same thing? We added a quarter of a million people to the government payroll and gave many of them brand new SUV's to drive, planes to fly around in, weapons to carry and no telling how much office space and office equipment had to be leased or bought in no telling how many countries. I can't even imagine what that one agency alone costs taxpayers when we already have people to do the same thing!
