Those of you that think next year will be "down" year are sadly mistaken. Many believe 2018 and 2019 will be as good or better than any team that has been there. This year's D-Line and a few key skill players will be gone, and the impact of Ayers and Lucas will be sorely missed, but the prospects coming up to replace them are very good and getting better every snap.

Lamar returns the entire defensive backfield save one linebacker, and there is a very good next year senior ready to replace him, that played extremely well all year in JV and the out of hand varsity games. The D-Line is probably the biggest question mark in most minds, but there are 4 juniors next year that have played together since 7th grade that are as good now as most D-Lines Lamar has had in the past. Size, speed, athleticism, with the 'hit you hard" mentality.

Gepner returns at one QB, after a tremendous end of the season. He really stepped up in McKarus' absence, and his toughness was more than proven in the last three games this year. Hardman also returns for his senior year, who looks more like his well-known older brother every snap. Medlin returns as well, and speed like his has been rare even in this program, including his state record 91 yard run in the state championship game. There are 3-4 other key players that have taken countless varsity, jv, and scout reps this season including a promising next year sophomore in Tucker. The O-Line loses four key 2 year starters, but there are 5-6 big next year senior and junior kids that have played a lot this year and will fill those roles nicely.

The 2017 Lamar team made more history despite battling the most injury adversity the team has had during this run. Everyone knows about McKarus, and Danner late, but many don't mention losing the center before the final two games, and being without a key O-lineman most of the year, that wasn't near 100% when he was able to return. It's stands to reason that the offense wasn't quite as potent as it has been, but the defense made up for it, as is often the case with good teams.

One thing is for sure, whatever happens, the Lamar fans know their coach will continue business as usual, and there is nobody better to keep the momentum going. It sure doesn't matter what the Lou teams say on twitter and what we experts say on here and other boards, when the pads go on, the BS stops.

I love seeing the dominence of SW MO over KC and Stlouis in 2A and 4A. I expect to see both CJ and Lamar in the finals next year.

I think Lamar will struggle replacing TW and Cooper.
True, they are both great football players and the next boy's up have huge shoes to fill. However every year, every successful program finds pieces that allow the team to be successful going forward. I have no doubt that will be the case next year. There will be boy's you never heard of, but by this time next year you will know their names.

Webb City's back must be tired from carrying CJ every year. Too bad CJ never gets to face a St. Louis or Kansas City team because that occurs later in the playoffs........

I totally agree they were arguably the best two players in the history of our program. Film on them doesn't lie, and seeing them in person and up close is even better. However, I think they would both tell you that they are just two players (or four players) out of 22, and they couldn't accomplish what the team has on their own.

I intended my post as a collective look at the entire team. I sure feel like, as many do, that we will have more depth, and not have to play as many kids both ways in the next couple years. I realize injuries happen, and other uncontrollables, but Lamar is in good hands.

I will be surprised if the winning streak is still going at the end of next year.
But Lamar is 7 time state championship for a reason, so anything is possible!

My prediction:
The win streak will end (in the regular season of some year in the future) before the title streak ends (they have at least a couple more years on the rest of Class 2)

Harrisonville is in KC? Next thing you know, someone from Springfield will say Webb City is in Springfield.

They are always counted by all the media outlets as being in the metro area. What are you talking about? Take that up with PrepsKC and 810Varsity. Per them...Harrsonville is in the KC Metro. They are in every metro ranking. And they are closer to downtown than some of the others included. So, yeah, they are a KC team.

Of course they claim them. Inside of 435 there are no good teams. They have to define the metro KC area in such a way that they look competitive and to bring in more of an audience. Before long, Maryville will be in metro KC.

ROFL!

They have to reach out faruther and further to find success.

Pity the KC bros

Would you consider Odessa or Kearney or Smithville? Cause they are all considered KC Metro and they are all about the same from KC.

I'm not sure where all those schools are, but once you get past 435, I think you are soon leaving the metro area. My thinking is more on where does the traffic patterns change, along with some fewer lanes. For example, on I49 heading south, I draw the line at Belton, cuz that seems to be where the traffic really changes. I'm not thru the other areas enough to really know. In a previous metro area I lived in, they drew the line basically at the equivalent of a 435 (and the schools touching it), with the others being classified as suburban schools. By the time you reached an area like Harrisonville, they would not have even called it a suburban school.

just saying....pretty much everyone in KC would agree...i didn't make up the rules lol
I'm just curious ... does people in Harrisonville agree? When I previously lived near a large city, the large city was saying all the suburban schools 30 miles from downtown were "metro area" schools, but those suburban schools wanted nothing to do with being considered metro area. What is the feeling of those schools around KC? What is the edge of KC metro area? I'm just someone from swmo trying to understand.
