Who woulda thunk it week ago. Can they hang around when they have 7 games left with the Cubs...and 3 with the Brewers?
That is NOT what my post says. The Birds didn't pick up a guy for a gazillion dollars that hits 30-40 HR's but they have a bunch of guys with 15 and 2 or 3 of them have 20. That's a LOT of HR's no matter who hits them. A pitcher has no clue who he can pitch too on this team without getting burned. My post says they are in the race in this division, AND the WC race, with 19 games left in a season when the Cubs were supposed to run away it. The killer was after they won 8 straight to catch up with the Cubs they lost something like 6 of 7 to fall back again. IF they had only played .500 ball then they would be up a game or 2 now! WE complain about the Cardinals not having this or that, what the heck is the Cub's excuse? They returned what was supposed to be a dominant team after winning the WS.I will translate your post. One major move at the deadline and they might have won it.

Show me where I said they WILL win the division. I said with all their issues they're IN THE RACE! The Cubs SHOULD win it but they ain't exactly setting the world on fire either. Beating them enough in the 7 games they have against each other will tell the story.Get back with me when st louis is up on the cubs. K.
Worst thing that could happen for the Duckster and some others here is the Birds make the playoffs.Show me where I said they WILL win the division. I said with all their issues they're IN THE RACE! This...But I'm torn. Sort of like McKernan about the trade deadline. Needed to be far enough out to be sellers, but weren't. All this said, still root my butt off for them every night.No. Thats the worst thing that could happen to all Cardinals fans. The best thing in the long run is another missed opportunity and a needed change of direction.
When did sports fans become so pessimistic? How many of us have managed championship teams? Let me get this straight...you would rather see us miss the post-season than get in? Did you read the post? I think it would be better in the long run, yet still root my rear off for them nightly. While watching every game.
I wonder if your fans and decision makers at your school were rooting against you when you were a coach and had the attitude "I hope those players and coaches fail so that we have a reason to make changes in the off-season" I have to admit that I didn't have any warm fuzzies about the 2006 Cardinals when the post season started and I gave up on the 2011 Cardinals three times during their championship run. If a change is needed, it's needed. Sometimes there needs to be a visible reason for some to stomach it.
This year's team intrigues me and makes me keep watching. Just when you think they are out of it, they start playing better and the Cubs are a mess. They are certainly not playing like a championship team. I like our chances. The fact that we are two games out with 19 to go basically playing a bunch of kids is exciting to me. They're not a "bunch of kids". MM's refusal to play a guy or two is likely a reason why they're not a few games better than they are.
Mike Matheny drives me crazy with some of his decisions, but so did TLR. Keep in mind that it took TLR almost 10 years to deliver his first championship to STL. Yeah, because comparing what TLR took over and what MM took over are the same thing? Seriously? Good grief man, I'm giving you a chance by reading this whole thing, but that is really short-sighted.
We are rebuilding whether the Upper Management and Ownership wants to admit it or not. It was exciting in 96 when you started to see things come together. As Cardinal fans, we are a spoiled bunch with high expectations. No doubting that at all. And I'm one of those biggest offenders. But part of being spoiled is having crazy high expectations. And MM doesn't come close to that. He's literally one of the worst in the league at his job.
I think we should be excited to be where we are considering most of us thought that we would have no chance to be here. We have a chance to win the division and a chance to win a Wild Card spot. I'm like Eagles in that I root for them like heck every night and I will until the season is over. I will be interested in what happens in the off-season, but I'm not in a hurry for it to get here and I'm certainly not hoping we don't make it so that we can fire some people and that I have something to gripe and complain about for the next 6 months. Either you are a Cardinal Fan or you Aren't. Couldn't agree more with this paragraph. This offseason has the potential to be the most active they've ever been. They're pretty loaded in an area that is great to be loaded in (young power pitching) and another that's not very lucrative (spotty hitting OF'ers). It'll be fun to watch unfold.
This might not be as far as off as you think concerning some.I wonder if your fans and decision makers at your school were rooting against you when you were a coach and had the attitude "I hope those players and coaches fail so that we have a reason to make changes in the off-season"
Not sure what "breaking through" means...but TLR's first Central winning playoff team had the likes of Pagnozzi, Mabry, Alicea, Clayton, Gaetti, Lankford, Jordan, and Gant in the everyday lineup. The Benes brothers, Stottlemeyer, and Donovan Flipping Osborne in the rotation. Lotta studs there. This might not be as far as off as you think concerning some.
Couldn't agree more with the rest of your post. Right on.
Speaking of TLR, when has MM had anywhere near the players TLR had when he finally broke thru? MV3? Lol. Maybe of triple A. In the 9th inning Sun every position on the field was occupied by a guy who had spent time in the minors this year. I wonder if any other contending team can say that?
Go Cards!

They have 100 pitchers on the roster right now and Wacha is always 1 pitch away from the DL. That seemed reasonable to me. The score was a lot to a little. Let a AAA arm soak up the inning.I'll go ahead and take credit for that one yesterday. It was a perfect day for baseball. Wacha was really really good. Haven't read any reports as to why they didn't let him finish it. He was rolling right along. The Buckos didn't appear all that interested. We need to keep it going and take care of the Reds. This thing is far from over. Go Cards.
Sometimes you need real failure to make yourself question the strategy you're on.When did sports fans become so pessimistic? How many of us have managed championship teams? TLR also won his WS with a team that was very clearly inferior to the teams that crushed the NL Central in 2004 and 2005.Not sure what "breaking through" means...but TLR's first Central winning playoff team had the likes of Pagnozzi, Mabry, Alicea, Clayton, Gaetti, Lankford, Jordan, and Gant in the everyday lineup. what the heck is the Cub's excuse? They returned what was supposed to be a dominant team after winning the WS.
They were playing .500 ball with those guys early in the season. They were a very average team then, that's why they haven't clinched already. When you go to bed at night, just pray that Contreras and Russell don't come back healthy. Hendricks already did, now it's just waiting to see the health of the other 2.
Biggest issue is Bryant with RISP. Even if he only gets slightly better for the rest of the season, the Cubs win out.
So there you go, an explanation.
Russell has been hurt the entire season and dealing with personal issues. They were playing .500 ball with those guys early in the season. They were a very average team then, that's why they haven't clinched already.
