What is Wisconsin's open carry law?


Wisconsin is an open carry state, so anyone 18 or older can visibly carry weapons under state law. But a person cannot have any other prohibitions, such as being a felon or convicted of domestic abuse, to carry a weapon legally.

17 year old brains are not fully developed when it comes to impulse control and risk taking. For him to have a semi-automatic rifle in a tense environment is absolutely absurd. For the cops to let him walk away is unbelievable.

He was a 17 year old with rifle in a state and city he doesn't live in. Why did he take that with him if he was such peaceful young man? He didn't go there to get a burger and a shake. I don’t have a clue what the law is in Wisconsin, but in Missouri every citizen has the right to use deadly force if he is in fear for his life or great bodily harm of himself or others. From the video I saw if I was on a jury there is no way I could argue that young man would not have had reasonable fear for his well being or life with those people attacking him.

He didn’t commit a crime. And in Wisconsin like most midwestern states a long gun (rifle or shotgun) is not classified as a weapon, they are a firearm (weapons are handguns, knifes, brass knuckles etc) Seems silly but that’s the law.

You must be 18 to buy a firearm but you can legally have one in your possession at the age of 16 in Wisconsin so he was not breaking the law by carrying his rifle

This will turn out like the big hubbub created by the kid in Springfield who was walking around Walmart with an AR wearing a tactical vest. There was no evidence he threatened anyone and he broke no laws. Charges were reduced to making a false statement to the police which he plead guilty to.
