Those folks were not on unemployment.

They don't count as employed given the way BLS data are determined, though
They still count me and the millions of other retired folks as dropped out of the workforce, how in the hell does that make ANY sense? I don't think much of any numbers they put out.

They produce a bunch of statistics. The core ones that policymakers use are focused on core working age people moreso than whether or not a 60 or 70 something is really retired.

Just another thing they do that makes NO sense. It can't be very hard to figure the actual number of us that are retired, not dropped out of the workforce because we can't find a job.

They have those statistics tracked; the core measures of unemployment explicitly exclude people who are retired and not looking for work, just like they exclude stay at home spouses

Everything I've seen says they still count me as if I 'left the workforce'.

Not in the core unemployment rate.

Where you see it is when people post the "what percentage of adults are employed" figure, the 62% or whatever, but that's not really what policymakers are focused on so much as U-3 and U-6 (the headline unemployment figure is U-3 and the full un/underemployment figure is U-6.)

Policymakers want a lot of data so they can understand if people might wish to re-enter the workforce, but the core thing they are focused on is on people who want to work or who could plausibly decide they want to work. Someone who is 68 with a decent retirement benefit isn't a concern when they look at these figures, so they are excluded from the headline unemployment rate.

I didn't say in unemployment numbers. They constantly said how many people had 'left the workforce' because they couldn't find jobs so the Obama unemployment numbers were really higher than they showed. They were absolutely counting RETIRED people among that number!

If that is what you are talking about, why are you in THIS thread?

Because they can do whatever they want with statistics, it's all the same crap. The people on the pick line had nothing to do with real job numbers.
