Long time Lamar fan passed away last week

Bill O’Brien passed away last Friday of a heart attack while working at Walmart. He was a huge Lamar Tiger Fan rarely missing a game. In fact just that morning he had posted about how it was the home opener and had a Lamar shirt on from several years ago. He had a son, Billy O’Brien who played. He was #74 graduating with the class of 2014. Billy and his dad both were known to be quite mouthy and I really think both of them used to post back then, but Bill was a great guy who always made you laugh! My son was his age so there’s a lot of memories playing football, baseball, and basketball since grade school. Just asking for prayers for his family on the sudden loss.

Class 3 is WIDEEEEE Open

Mookie Cooper, the best player in the St Louis Area and Ohio State commit is enrolling in Pattonville, leaving Trinity. Article says he’ll be able to graduate early and start College in January. By far the best player in the Class and workhouse for the #1 ranked team is out.

This to me puts Blair Oaks in the drivers seat, Trinity of course has other weapons and we’ll see on Saturday vs Lutheran North if they are still the same offense without the best player on the team.

Preseason Football Rankings

Here's the first media poll of the year. I always think it's interesting to compare the first and last polls of the year and see what's changed.

Probably the highest ranking Joplin's seen in awhile. I don't remember seeing Carthage at #2 since they were class 4 ranked just behind Webb City. I would have to look back but seems unusual to not see Webb as #1.

Small public schools have zero chance

Right off the bat I want to say I think the coaches at Trinity, Lutheran North, Lutheran St Charles, Ofallon Christian and now Duschene are good men. I coached high school football for 28 years and I don't know any of the coaches real well but I do have coaching friends that know them well. I coached in class 3 public school . John Burroughs was the team we could never get by. In the last couple of years the talent level coming to Trinity and Lutheran North is unreal. 2 years ago a whole team of 8th graders went to Christian they are now Juniors they will be very good. The Lutheran program is now benefitting from many 9th graders that went to Lutheran a year ago. Duschene has 12 frosh from the same team that won the 8th grade super bowl on their team. I am in no way blaming these coaches are kids wanting to play with their friends. The point is small public schools have no chance. Lamar was the exception but those days are over. Lutheran North and Cardinal Ritter have gotten better with many great players at those schools. Class 2 will be won when those play each in districts. Class 3 you have Trinity who will be better this year and you wonder why they have a couple of unbelievable frosh come to their school plus what they have coming back. How Blair Oaks is able to be on Trinity level is awesome but that is rare for a public school that is small. St Charles West is loaded but not Trinity level.
